La Crete Polar Cats

Established in 1993 and proudly affiliated with the Alberta Snowmobile Association (ASA), the La Crete Polar Cats Snowmobile Club maintains an exceptional network of over 300 kilometres of groomed and signed winter trails. Operated entirely by dedicated local volunteers, this premier winter playground is a haven for family fun and snowmobile enthusiasts alike, stretching from the scenic Buffalo Head Hills all the way to Talbot Lake and the Sand Hills (Neufeld Flats). Traversing pristine boreal forest landscapes, the trails offer breathtaking views and provide a unique opportunity to catch the magical northern lights dancing across the night sky, spot local wildlife, or stop for a day of ice fishing.

The extensive trail system is designed to accommodate riders of all skill levels:

The Sand Hills Trails: A beautifully groomed network focused on winter family recreation. Depending on seasonal ice conditions from January to March, this system includes a marked ice crossing over the Peace River, connecting riders directly to High Level’s trail system for hundreds of kilometres of additional riding.

The Buffalo Head Hills Trails: A more technical and rugged network, perfect for experienced riders looking for deeper powder, steep inclines, and backcountry trailblazing challenges.

Cabins and Warm-Up Shelters: To ensure safety and comfort, the club maintains heated, cozy warm-up shelters along the trail network. For those seeking an immersive winter experience, the main cabin located in the Buffalo Head Hills offers overnight availability for ASA members.

Events and Rallies: Throughout the winter season, the club keeps the community spirit alive by hosting highly popular snow machine races, family day rides, and annual poker rallies.
