Rocky Lane Agricultural Society

Located 9 kilometres off Highway 88, the historic farming community of Rocky Lane was originally settled after WWI by veterans who received land grants, followed by waves of hardworking settlers in the 1930s. Today, this scenic area remains a vibrant hub for outdoor recreation. Operated by the Rocky Lane Agricultural Society, the local trail network was established in 1990 to help residents and visitors embrace the Mackenzie Frontier’s long winters. Winding through stunning natural landscapes along the Ponton River, these trails offer a peaceful and pristine wilderness experience.

Winter Cross-Country Skiing: The property features 15 kilometres of alluring, professionally maintained trails suitable for both classic cross-country and skate-skiing. During the ski season, the trails are groomed weekly and offer a variety of loops tailored to beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers. This high-quality network provides a fantastic winter outing for the whole family—including leashed pets—and has historically been used by elite ski teams to train for the Alberta Winter Games and the Arctic Winter Games.

Summer & Fall Multi-Use Trails: When the snow melts, the adventure continues. During the summer and autumn months, the trail system transitions into a multi-use network open to the public free of charge. Visitors can explore the rugged terrain for hiking, cross-country running, mountain biking, bird watching, and horseback riding.
