Sentier Beaver Boardwalk
Looking for a memorable family outing? Come and explore the world’s longest freshwater boardwalk! Located around the beautiful Maxwell Lake, the Beaver Boardwalk invites you to discover a fascinating wetland ecosystem. Stretching over three kilometres, this impressive trail system was built through years of volunteer effort and corporate support. Along the way, interpretive signs and cozy seating areas allow you to learn about the local environment while soaking in the scenery. The highlight of the stroll? The boardwalk meanders right through marshlands and fens, bringing you incredibly close to an active beaver dam and lodge. Keep your eyes peeled, as you might spot up to a dozen of these busy builders at work, along with numerous species of birds, butterflies, and deer.
Seasonality and Best Times: While the trail is a great escape, the warm weather months offer the best experience. To maximize your chances of seeing the beavers hard at work, plan your visit for the early morning or evening.
Trail Etiquette and Safety: Bikes are welcome, but cyclists must dismount when encountering other trail users (wearing a helmet and using a bell is highly recommended). Motorized vehicles and fires are strictly prohibited to protect the forest.
Wildlife and Environment: You are in the Hinton area, a rich natural habitat where wildlife always has the right of way. Be aware that you may encounter deer, elk, moose, bears, wolves, or cougars. Dogs are permitted but must be kept under control at all times, and owners must clean up after them.
