The McNallie Creek
McNallie Creek Territorial Park is a charming 7.5-hectare day-use area, perfect for travelers looking to pull off the highway, enjoy a picnic, and stretch their legs in the fresh northern air. Following extensive restoration and rebuilding efforts after the 2023 regional wildfires, the park has been beautifully upgraded with modern infrastructure, welcoming visitors back to a vibrant, regenerating boreal landscape.
The crown jewel of this roadside gem is the magnificent 17-meter McNallie Creek Falls. A short, easy walking trail leads directly to a newly rebuilt viewing platform that projects out over the ravine. From this vantage point, visitors can take in the surprising roar of the waterfall and look for cliff swallows nesting along the steep rock walls. A historical plaque at the lookout also explains the unique origin of the creek’s name.
The Trail: An easy 0.5-km out-and-back trail that takes an average of 6 to 10 minutes to complete. It is a peaceful, low-traffic route excellent for a casual stroll and birdwatching. Dogs are welcome and are permitted off-leash in designated areas.
Accessibility: Due to the natural terrain and the stairs leading to the gorge viewpoint, this park and its trail are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
Location: Conveniently located directly along NWT Highway 1 (Mackenzie Highway), just west of the community of Enterprise.
Nearby Attractions: Continuing just a short drive north toward Hay River, visitors can explore the spectacular Hay River Beach—featuring kilometers of sandy dunes along Great Slave Lake—or check out the local crafts and treats at the summer Fisherman’s Wharf market, open Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
