Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation
The Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation was created through a partnership between the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory and Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. The centre provides multi-faceted, interactive displays and innovative education programs to educate and entertain visitors of all ages about birds and their vital relationship to the boreal forest. Make sure to visit their state-of-the-art environmental friendly facilities, where you can also find a gift shop featuring local artists and boreal forest related merchandise.
Kimiwan Birdwalk & Interpretive Centre
Operated by the Kimiwan Lake Naturalists, the Birdwalk and Interpretive Centre strives to maintain the multiple values of Kimiwan Lake through education and interpretation, research and habitat enhancement activities. Inside the Interpretive Centre, you will find information about the birds of Kimiwan Lake including some interesting taxidermy of native birds. Next, a self-guided interpretive birdwalk awaits you on appromixately 700 m around a wetland and on a wooden walkway. Make sure to stop in and chat with the staff about additional birding and other tourism opportunities in the area.
Elevation Sled Dogs
Elevation Sled Dogs is home to some of the most talented sled dogs in Canada and truly magical experiences. Come meet Aaron and his four-legged athletes, as they hope to encourage people to embrace an active lifestyle by demonstrating to everyone the miracle of man and dog working together.
Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Mueseum
The Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum is an international institute for experiential learning dedicated to Alberta’s paleontological heritage. On top of world-class collections and innovative expositions, there are also interpretative tours that will bring you outside and directly on some of the richest site for our history.
Grande Cache Tourism & Interpretive Centre
On top of providing all your tourism information needs, the Grande Cache Tourism & Interpretive Centre showcases the fascinating history of the area through exhibits and displays featuring ice age artifacts, dinosaur tracks, Aboriginal heritage and fur trading, full animal mounts, tree and geological descriptions and local industry. There is also a gift shop and art gallery on site.
Forest Interpretive Centre & Visitor Centre
Located at the eastern edge of Whitecourt, the Forest Interpretive Centre and Visitor Centre are open year-round. Enjoy a multimedia gallery that explores and explains the role of the forest. See the meteorite display or heritage building outside. Guided tours of the heritage buildings are available throughout the summer.
